Soren Russo

Sentinel of the Chantry of Thirteen Faiths, Member of Vigilum Nox

"No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become. No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell. There are no maps of the change. You just come out the other side.....Or you don't." ― Stephen King, The Stand

General Knowledge

Soren Russo

Within the Mundane Community:
Not many really know what Soren is in regard to mortal connections; he is not a student or a businessman, he does not appear to have a traditional job and he is often seen just roaming the streets or chatting people up in bars. The most likely group of people to know his face would be regulars at a boxing gym on the poorer side of town, where he has recently taken up coaching rookies in his spare time. Then again, not everything is as it seems with the Hollow One.

Within the Mage Community:
Within the Chantry: Soren has been a part of the chantry since mid-2012. He was a part of the original Council that formed in October 2012, as the leader of Vigilum Nox, but he gave up his seat there in order to fill part of the role of Sentinel of the Chantry in October 2013. In March 2015, he resigned from the role of Sentinel under claims of 'personal reasons', though he remained with the chantry as a part of Vigilum Nox. In September 2016, Vigilum Nox dissolved without external warning signs, the split seemingly amicable, and reformed a year later. In October 2018, he was reinstated as Sentinel with support from then-Sentinel Phoebe King, though there were notable tensions among some of the Council in the process.

Within the Traditions: Soren is a Hollow One who, prior to coming to Providence, had been loosely affiliated with a chantry in New York City. He gained a negative reputation over time there with his first cabal, a mixed Hollow One/Tradition cabal that called themselves Histrionics. Histrionics had a reputation for utilizing magic, pranks, and dirty tricks to humble other willworkers who abused their magic or used it to cheat Sleepers grossly.

At least, that had been the initial work. Members of the group started to go mad: Theo of the Cult of Ecstasy turned barabbi and flensed the mind of his Hollow One cabalmate, Maggie Magpie, turning her into a Marauder; Clyde of the Euthanatos fell deeply into Marauderdom; Violet of the Hollow Ones was rumored to be nearing the unstable madness of Marauderdom; and Soren's own apprentice, Moira, committed suicide. This trend is disturbing to many willworkers on either side of the Tradition/Craft lines, and has led to Soren being regarded with suspicion or even overt hostility. (Notoriety)

Within the Hollow Ones: In addition to the above, the Hollow Ones might know Soren served as the 'king' for the Craft from Halloween '15 to Halloween '16. This was a farcical title -it carried no actual power- and it seemed to have fallen to him by merit of being the only Hollow One to actively and audibly oppose the acting 'queen', Eudora Hadley of the Four Horsemen. Said opposition led to several attempts on his life during the '16 Hollow One gathering, including one that seemingly succeeded even though it didn't 'stick' -many Hollow Ones present at that gathering have since taken to referring to him as 'the Deathless' and regard him oddly depending on their personal perspective of death.
